Pumps by application

dewater & ground control
Dewatering and Ground water control
In the UAE and Gulf States, a high water table means groundwater lowering is necessary for nearly all construction and civil engineering projects. We’re the dewatering experts, delivering whatever you need to get the job done.

Building & Construction
Any problems or delays on your site can mean missed deadlines and financial penalties. With a high water table in so many areas across the UAE and Gulf States, you need a proven provider.

Water Companies
We have the best range, widest coverage and depth of expertise to meet the demands of the water industry, local municipalities and other service providers across the region.

Quarries & Mines
These are among the toughest environments in the world to work in, placing special demands on pumping equipment used and the people who deliver and service it. So you need to talk to the experts.

Tunnelling
We have huge expertise in tunnelling applications, gained in the UAE and UK. Thanks to the breadth of our hire fleet and the skills of our people, we can deliver the most effective pumping schemes however tough the environment or location.

Industrial
Manufacturing and processing are complex enough without having to worry about having access to the right pumps and services, as and when you need them. We help organisations succeed despite punishing production schedules, rising costs and changing market conditions.

Emergency Pumping Services
We have a superb success rate in responding to emergencies and, unlike other providers, can offer a genuine 24-hour call-out and pumps backup service.

Docks, Ports & Harbours
Complete end-to-end solutions for: load out, commissioning and decommissioning; cleaning and dredging; working in wet and dry docks; dock and harbour infrastructure work; fabricators and shipyards; and specialist heavy load requirements.

Refineries & Power Stations
We provide refineries, petrochemical facilities and power stations with the largest range of powerful and reliable pumps for hire – from regular activities and supporting general operations to emergency backup.

Deep Well Dewatering

The Khansaheb Sykes Deep Well dewatering system is recognised as a cost effective and efficient way for medium to long term dewatering of large projects where the excavation is greater than 4 metres or when Wellpoint dewatering is deemed inefficient. Our Deep Well dewatering system offers many advantages including:

  • Minimal noise
  • Easy to install
  • Does not rely on vacuum inducement, typically associated with Wellpoint dewatering
  • Relatively maintenance free as the submersible pumpsets are housed in the Deep Well and cooled by the flowing groundwater
  • Ability to penetrate strata impervious to the jetting method of Wellpoint systems
  • Installation of up to 100 feet deep or more in a single stage
  • Capable of pumping tens to thousands of gallons per minute per Deep Well
Deep Well dewatering differs from Wellpoint dewatering systems in that the Deep Wells contain submersible pumps placed strategically inside the site boundaries to provide a dry site for excavation and construction.

Deep Well groundwater control systems are employed to lower groundwater levels to provide stable working conditions in excavations. A Deep Well dewatering system consists of an array of widely spaced bored wells fitted with multi-stage electric submersible pumps.

Deep Well dewatering systems are effective in a range of soil conditions from gravel to fine sands. The technique is particularly suited to deeper excavations or where artesian groundwater pressures threaten base stability. Deep Well dewatering systems can also be used where small amounts of drawdown are required over large areas.

Deep Well dewatering typically consists of vertical or inclined bore holes, usually in the order of 200mm to 300mm diameter casings placed through the strata requiring dewatering. A suitable uPVC deep well casing will be placed in the borehole, consisting of screened and cased sections. An adequate filter pack is installed to both maximise well yield and inhibit the movement of fines. After deep well development, airlifting within the deep well casing is carried out before a suitable electric submersible borehole pump is installed.

Deep Well Dewatering Systems

When the water table needs lowering below 9 metres, conventional vertical Wellpoint dewatering isn't feasible or economical. We can offer a Deep Well system as an alternative. A Deep Well system consists of an array of widely spaced bored deep wells fitted with multi-stage electric submersible pumps. Pumps typically used for deep well gravity drainage include multi-stage bore hole pumps electric submersible units: these pumps permit excavation down to any required depth in a single stage.

Deep Bored Pumping Well

When the water table needs lowering below 7-9 metres, conventional vertical wellpointing in stages isn’t feasible or economical. We provide an alternative the tube or bored well. A hole is bored to the required depth a mesh screen lining then allows water to accumulate at the bottom, which is removed by a pump installed in the well.

Pumps typically used for deep well gravity drainage include Pumpex electric submersible units: these pumps permit excavation down to 22m in a single stage.

Deep Well dewatering systems can be installed in a ring around an excavation to lower the water level and maintain a safe, dry site. Several equations can be used to design Deep Well dewatering systems, however many of these are based on empirical data and occasionally fail. Practice and experience, along with a firm understanding of the underlying principles of dewatering, are the best tools for designing a successful system. This is where you can rely on the 35 years of experience and technical dewatering expertise of Khansaheb Sykes.

Deep Well dewatering systems are effective in a range of soil conditions from gravel to fine sands. The technique is particularly suited to deeper excavations or where artesian groundwater pressures threaten base stability. [Because the pump is installed at depth in the well there is no physical limit on drawdown other than the aquifer response and the performance characteristics of the pump in use. Well yields can be improved by specialist development techniques such as airlift in granular soils and acid development in chalk.]

Khansaheb Sykes installs Deep Wells with a liner and screen to provide borehole support and allow groundwater ingress whilst avoiding collapse of unstable granular soil. A filter pack is placed around the Deep Well liner to prevent suspended solids from entering the Deep Well. The pumps are powered from a central control cabin and discharge water is normally collected in an HDPE or GI ring main.

Khansaheb Sykes chooses materials suitable for the harsh physical climate of the Middle East making the systems reliable in the long-term.

Khansaheb Sykes creates unobtrusive Deep Well systems that cause a minimum of access restrictions by using relatively widely spaced wells and designing perimeter systems that rarely call for the use of internal wells, thus providing excavation interiors free from dewatering wells.

Our Deep Well dewatering system is also a versatile pre-drainage solution which can pump high and low volumes of groundwater. This method is best suited to homogeneous aquifers that extend well below the bottom of the excavation.

Through our depots and offices, we provide a local hands-on service nationwide. Our dewatering products and ground water control services are just a phone call away. To get further information or advice call us on 00971 800 79537.
