Riding the Stormy Water – Deep Well Dewatering

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Essential Dewatering expertise was required from Khansaheb Sykes during 2010 to support the Prestigious ‘Yas Island’ project in Abu Dhabi.

A large new ‘storm water pumping station’ was needed as part of this major development within Yas Island and this required specialist dewatering due to the deep excavation work.

A section of this project was for a 700m storm water pipe to be installed 18m below the natural ground level.
Here Khansaheb Sykes’s specialist expertise within Dewatering solutions was called to action. Due to the depth of excavation, Deep Well Dewatering was best suited for this project. In total, 17 Deep Wells were installed and operated by fully trained Khansaheb Sykes personnel (on a 24hour basis), thereby maintaining an essential ‘dry area’ for the client to carry out all their essential works.

High flow rate Sykes pumps allow bridge building in OMAN Wadis

Monday, December 20th, 2010

After recent flash floods in inland Oman, many of the roads were simply “washed away”.

Due to the frequency and intensity of these floods, a major road rebuilding project was announced by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication / Directorate General of Roads for the “Repairing of Cyclone Damages on Wadi-Thaiyeen”.

This prestigious project was won by Galfar Engineering and Contracting S.A.O.G. which included the building of a series of bridges spanning the wadis to raise the road network so that traffic can flow unhindered by seasonal flooding.

Al Ansari Trading Enterprise LLC - the Sykes Pumps Omani Distributor, consulted closely with Galfar Engineering and Contracting to calculate the high flow rates necessary for the ground water control while the bridge foundation works were being completed.

Then in close cooperation with Khansaheb Sykes, a fleet of high flow rate pumps (8” and 12” diameter intake and discharge) were mobilised to complete this specialist job – closely monitored day to day by Al Ansari Trading.

SP80 Submersible Pump Hire

SP80 Submersible Pump Hire

Khansaheb Sykes the leader in Dewatering and Ground Water Control within the UAE has introduced the Pumpex SP range of electric submersibles into its hire fleet to compliment the companies’ range of Wellpoint Dewatering and Ground Water Control Pumps.

The Pumpex SP range of electric submersible sludge pumps are ideal for pumping sludge, water with large sludge content and contaminated liquids. These light, portable hard wearing pumps are compact in design, reliable and simple to install and maintain, they are capable of delivering heads of 32meters and a capacity of 30 litres per second.

The larger units range from 80mm to 300mm, the amount of material that the sewage pumps can shift depends on the size of the pump, the constitution of the material, and the addition of an impeller and the particular application.

Working in conjunction with our vast Dewatering and Ground Water Control projects within the UAE, a number of these pumps have already been utilised on Sewage projects at Yas Island. Here the customer required a high head electric submersible pump capable of pumping dirty water and with the capacity of discharging over 100 metres.
